2015 marks the 125th anniversary of Van Gogh's birth. To commemorate him, the renowned British film studios BreakThru Films (an Oscar-winning studio) and Trademark Films began producing an animated feature titled "Loving Vincent" in 2012. Through 120 hand-painted animations of Van Gogh's artworks, the film seeks to explore the artist's inner world and the mystery surrounding his death.
The film revolves around an undeliverable letter, weaving together the secrets between Van Gogh and the three most important figures in his life during the final six weeks before his death. It transports the audience back to late 19th-century Europe, accompanying Van Gogh on the last journey of his life. Using the character archetypes from Van Gogh's original paintings to recreate his artistic life, the film allows viewers to unravel a secret hidden for a century and a half while immersing them in a breathtaking visual feast.
