This work is set against the historical backdrop of the "Hiroshima Carp" (the predecessor of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp), Japan's only citizen-owned professional baseball team, founded in 1949 shortly after the atomic bombing. It depicts children who lost their homes and families in the bombing, entrusting their dreams to the "Carp" and resiliently surviving while playing sandlot baseball. Through their story, it portrays the resilience that is gradually being lost among modern children living in affluence, as well as the wonder of having dreams.
