"Internal Workings" is directed by Leo Matsuda, a Japanese-Brazilian filmmaker who previously worked as a story artist at Disney, contributing to films such as "Big Hero 6" and "Wreck-It Ralph."
The story of "Internal Workings" is somewhat similar to "Inside Out," depicting the conflict between a person's pragmatic, cautious mind and their free-spirited, unrestrained heart.
The short film follows a very ordinary office worker named "Paul." On his way to work, he faces various temptations that constantly beckon his playful heart, but his rational mind always suppresses these impulses. After fully experiencing both the dull monotony of work life and the excessive indulgence of play, Paul's mind and heart reach a compromise, agreeing to balance his work and entertainment in the future.
The inspiration for this film comes from Leo Matsuda's personal experiences. With the discipline and rigor of his Japanese heritage and the passion and exuberance of his Brazilian side, balancing these two aspects has been an ongoing endeavor for him.
