The protagonist of this film is a young boy from a wealthy family. Although he lacks for nothing in terms of material comforts, he is not happy. The director employs a "split-screen" technique—reality on the left, dreams on the right—using two screens to create a powerful contrast. This boy, who is always plagued by nightmares, finally encounters an iceberg, and with a nightmare-like ending, he brings his own nightmares to a close. The film's simple lines, richly symbolic colors, subjective perspectives that defy the human eye, and the ingenious, ever-shifting dislocations of time and space are truly captivating.
