In an old, desolate palace, accompanied by cheerful music, a splendid stage illuminated by bright lights sets the scene for a classic drama performed as a puppet show. Don Felipe kneels on one knee, confessing his love to the beautiful maiden Doña María. However, María is about to marry Don Felipe's brother—the dissolute and libertine Don Juan—as arranged by her father. Don Juan, aware of his brother's secret rendezvous with his fiancée, is furious and orders his jester to seek out his father, hoping to feign illness and extort a large sum of money to carry out his scheme. Don Juan's father despises his ungrateful son and gives the jester two coins as an insult. Enraged and humiliated, Don Juan commits an atrocious act that defies humanity and resolves to sabotage his brother's secret meeting with María...
This film is adapted from Byron's classic epic poem.
