The surprise hit of last October, "Invasion! Squid Girl," skyrocketed in popularity from its very first broadcast, thanks to the squid girl who is ignorant of life on land, a bit arrogant, yet incredibly clever. Although the series only aired for a single season, it left many anime fans feeling it was far too short after experiencing its charming appeal. In last week's "Weekly Shonen Champion," a major announcement was teased for the next issue, and this week, that announcement has finally been revealed in the latest "Weekly Shonen Champion." As everyone had hoped and guessed, the squid girl's invasion plan is back—the second season of the anime has officially been announced for production!!
Based on the comedic and moe manga by Masahiro Anbe, the story follows a squid girl living in the ocean who, unable to bear the worsening marine environment, decides to teach humanity a lesson. Ultimately, she ends up getting along with humans and gradually adapts to life on land in a heartwarming and adorable tale. The latest news for the second season has been announced, with the title confirmed as "Invasion!? Squid Girl," adding a "?" after the "!" from the original. Additionally, the main production team and voice cast have been revealed. Director Tsutomu Mizushima has been promoted to chief director, while the directorial role will be taken over by Yasutaka Yamamoto, who contributed significantly to the first season. Apart from this change, the rest of the team remains the same as the first season. Hisako Kanemoto will continue to voice the squid girl.
