Three hens of different colors—black, yellow, and white—received a notice to move. None of them knew what conditions awaited them at their new home, so the black hen brought a basket of corn, the yellow hen carried a quilt, and the white hen took an umbrella. The three hens set off toward the apartment building. Just as they were growing weary from the walk, the new building appeared before their eyes. The current residents, seeing the three hens on the television screen, immediately welcomed them with drums and gongs. Soon after, the feed mixer started up, and the old residents treated the three hens to snacks—so many and so delicious that the black hen no longer needed her basket and tossed it aside. At the press of a remote control, solar heating warmed the three hens until they were sweating, and the yellow hen, who had feared the cold, found her quilt unnecessary. Fresh, sweet water sprayed from the modern drinking fountain, and everyone drank to their heart’s content. Later, the three hens went to tour the building. Seeing how well-constructed the house was—with no chance of leaking—the white hen discarded her umbrella as well. The three hens decided to settle there for the long term. Together with everyone else, they listened to lullabies and laid large eggs. The eggs multiplied, the chicks grew quickly, and this new family flourished more and more.
