In the near future, an evil organization known as "Black Widow" deploys "Zone Generators" across the world, turning vast areas into "Spiral Zones" shrouded in thick fog. Humans affected by these zones become "Zone People"—their skin festering, their movements sluggish—enslaved and stripped of free will under Black Widow's control. To counter Black Widow and save the world, an international elite force called the "Zone Riders" is formed, composed of nations from the free world. Selected from military forces around the globe, the Zone Riders rely on specially designed armor to enter the Spiral Zones, confront Black Widow, and destroy the Zone Generators. The series does not explicitly explain how the zones function, but it is speculated that the thick fog and energy waves produced by the Zone Generators affect both the body and consciousness of humans. Black Widow members retain their free will through unknown means, though their skin still festers like that of ordinary Zone People.
