Based on the highly popular anime "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya," the four-panel parody manga "The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya" was announced in August 2008 to be adapted into a web anime.
The manga, scripted by the original "Haruhi" author Nagaru Tanigawa, began serialization in 2007, with the first volume of the compiled book released in May 2008.
Upon the release of the compiled volume, due to the anime version of "Haruhi" remaining inactive for a year after the announcement of its second season, and the delay of the original novel's 10th volume, "The Astonishment of Haruhi Suzumiya," by over a year, fans' pent-up enthusiasm was entirely directed toward the "Haruhi-chan" manga. The compiled volume sold out immediately upon release, and even after multiple emergency reprints, demand still exceeded supply.
This anime version of "The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya" will be broadcast on the Kadokawa Animation Channel within the video-sharing website YouTube. Simultaneously, the manga "Nyoron☆Churuya-san," a secondary creation featuring "Haruhi's" character "Tsuruya" as the protagonist (with "Nyoron" being Tsuruya-senpai's verbal quirk), will also be adapted into a web anime and broadcast on the same channel.
