Based on Dostoevsky's "The Dream of a Ridiculous Man," the work depicts a man, despairing of life and preparing for suicide, who is reborn due to an unexpected encounter with a little girl.
"Could there truly be identical things in the universe? Is this truly the law of nature?... If this is another Earth, then could it be exactly the same as our Earth... as our unfortunate, pitiful, yet precious, eternally beloved Earth, the Earth that can evoke bitter love even in the hearts of its most ungrateful children?..." I cried out with immense emotion, feeling an uncontrollable longing for the original Earth I had left behind. The figure of the pitiful little girl I had rejected flashed before my eyes.
"You will see everything," my companion replied. His words carried a trace of sorrow. We were rapidly approaching the planet, which grew larger and larger in my sight. I could already make out the outlines of oceans and Europe, and a strange, great, and pure jealousy suddenly surged within me: How could there be identical things? And for what purpose? I love, and can only love, the Earth I left behind—the Earth upon which my blood was spilled when I, this ungrateful man, ended my life with a shot to the heart. But never, never have I ceased loving that Earth; even on the night I left it, I perhaps loved it more painfully than ever. Is there also suffering on this new Earth? On our Earth, we truly can only love with suffering, and we know no other way to love it. For love, I am willing to suffer. I wish, I long to kiss the Earth I left behind with hot tears at this very moment. I do not wish, nor will I accept, rebirth on any other Earth...
