The entire series revolves around the magical stories between second-grade student Wang Xiaoming and his spirit friend "Wang Mao." Xiaoming is an ordinary boy from an ordinary family, currently in second grade. His mother works as a salesclerk at a state-owned store—sharp-tongued, beauty-loving, and always comparing herself to others. She calls daily to enroll Xiaoming in various training classes, with her greatest ambition being for him to stand out and succeed. Xiaoming's father is an accountant who commutes to work on time every day, earns an average income, and possesses a moderate ability to navigate office politics. Xiaoming's school is an ordinary elementary school, and his favorite teacher is the beautiful Ms. Li, who teaches speech class. In his imagination, the usually somewhat stern female principal and the older teacher, Mr. Li, can suddenly transform into superhero-like figures. Xiaoming ranks 18th in his class academically, with Zhang Wei in first place and Zhou Na—a girl who always clashes with Zhang Wei—in second... One thing is particularly special: after Xiaoming falls asleep at night, a pair of large hands emerges from the wall beside his bed and pulls him into the world inside the wall. Inside the wall lives Wang Mao, who is knowledgeable and capable of anything. He can make Xiaoming appear anywhere, restart events that have already passed, or allow Xiaoming to undergo unique "life experiences." Xiaoming greatly admires Wang Mao and often tells him about the things that happen during the day. Wang Mao doesn’t openly share his own views but instead takes Xiaoming into various "scenarios," allowing him to experience and reflect on his own. Sometimes, Wang Mao even fulfills Xiaoming's wishes, letting him fly with him through the city's night sky...
