The cheerful adventurer Baudoin (played by Michael Herbig), cursed by his rival knight Adolar (played by Nick Brimble), transforms into the ghost Hui Buh, permanently residing in Bogeck Castle.
For the next 500 years, as Germany's only registered spirit, Hui Buh enjoys a peaceful and pleasant pastoral life at Bogeck. His only trouble is that he doesn't look scary at all. To frighten people, Hui Buh puts a lot of thought into it, and the castle's old butler, Castellan (played by Hans Clarin), becomes his favorite test subject.
However, the good times don't last long. King Julius the 111th (played by Christoph Maria Herbst) plans to hold a grand engagement ceremony here with the charming Countess Leonora of Ettepet (played by Heike Makatsch). Disturbed, Hui Buh is very unhappy about someone intruding into "his" lovely castle and quickly takes action, turning the grand ceremony into a farce.
Enraged, the king burns Hui Buh's ghost license, leading the Spirit Management Agency to confiscate his key, preventing him from passing through walls, and giving him two days to retake the ghost exam. If he fails, Hui Buh will be thrown into the dreaded "Soul Soup" that terrifies all ghosts. Meanwhile, the king discovers he is bankrupt, and the secret chamber in the castle containing the treasure can only be opened from the inside by a spirit passing through the walls. The man and the ghost eventually realize that only by joining forces can they solve their respective problems. Thus, the adventure of these two unreliable heroes begins...
