Two oxen were pulling a heavy cart across a pond when one, its neck tangled in the reins, became stuck in the mud, while the other abandoned it. The trapped ox struggled free from the pond and let out a mournful, sorrowful lowing in the wilderness, catching the attention of wolves, deer, and other animals, who gathered around it. A wolf tried to inform the lion sleeping atop the mountain that an ox was there, but the lion paid no heed, not even opening its eyes.
When the lion awoke and descended the mountain, its roar caused panic among the animals, who scattered in fear. Upon seeing the ox, the lion initially intended to attack but refrained, sensing no threat from it. Afterward, they became friends. The close bond between the lion and the ox stirred jealousy in the wolf, who, perhaps also driven by a desire to become king, began sowing discord, hoping to pit the lion and the ox against each other until both were weakened. In the end, the wolf got its wish.
