Perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of this film is that you simply cannot find animation like this anywhere else. Who would ever create animation by drawing sketches on plaster? It truly is a unique work. The composition (layout) of most scenes is excellent, though some are not as strong. Many of the backgrounds are quite beautiful. However, I must say the film lacks a clear storyline. I know it is adapted from "Crime and Punishment," but the story in the film seems to drag on and on.
Dostoevsky (the author of "Crime and Punishment") also appears to have some connection with flies, keyholes, and clocks—something you might notice if you’ve read his other works. Overall, it is quite impressive. It’s a shame his works are so difficult to grasp.
