"Araya, what do you seek?" "True wisdom." "Where do you seek it?" "Only within myself."
In November 1998, Enjō Tomoe encounters Shiki Ryōgi and is drawn to her. Tomoe suffers from recurring nightmares every night, each one replaying the crimes he has committed. To investigate the truth behind these events, Shiki visits Tomoe's apartment, unaware that they have already fallen into the enemy's trap—the intricate "Paradox Spiral."
Behind it all stands a man named Araya Sōren. His fated rival is the magician Aozaki Tōko, the greatest puppet master. The entire Garan-dō team mobilizes, and a life-or-death battle is about to begin.
"Araya, what do you seek?" "True wisdom." "Araya, where do you seek it?" "Only within myself." Having endured the passage of eternity, this man despaired at the endeavors of humanity, the pinnacle of all living beings. To witness its final moments, he began collecting death, thirsting for the "Root"—the origin and end of all things. His name is Araya Sōren. Once, in a distant foreign academy, he had a worthy rival. Her name is Aozaki Tōko, a magician who earned the title of "Red" among the three primary colors and a top-ranked puppet master designated for sealing. The two were destined to meet someday, somewhere. Ironically, the stage was the spiral land in the town where Tōko resided—a place he himself had a hand in creating. Whether this was the work of the "Counter Force," which appears to obstruct those who seek to reach the Root, remains unknown to anyone.
The Counter Force—one is the collective unconscious, selfishly wishing for humanity's survival; the other is the survival instinct of the Earth itself, indifferent to human activities. It remains unclear which of these forces played a role, but two inexplicable incidents occurred, and there existed those who strayed from what should have been an endless daily life. Their names are...
Shiki Ryōgi, burdened with the power and body she gained simply by being born into the Ryōgi family.
Araya Sōren, who sees in her flesh a door to the unknown.
Aozaki Tōko, who becomes aware of his schemes.
Mikiya Kokutō, who holds unwavering feelings despite being tossed about by unexpected circumstances.
And Enjō Tomoe, who meets Shiki and finds his heart captivated.
Was their encounter accidental or inevitable? "Coincidence is the hidden language of mystery. The word 'coincidence' is invoked to conceal unknowable laws." As Tōko's words suggest, they now advance, each heading down a path unknown to anyone yet already laid out before them.
