Loneliness is a ravenous beast, slowly invading the heart, leaving one at a loss...
Ever since her father hung the key around the little girl’s neck, it was destined that she would face endless solitude. Her only hope was for her father to come home early to see her, but the key in her hand could not open a house filled with warmth—instead, it led to a hollow and icy abyss. The protagonist treats the key as a talisman; when loneliness and emptiness strike, she clutches it tightly, as if that key could bring her family back, diverting her longing, her fears, and even her dreams—all connected by this key. It opens doors of escape and pursuit, leading into the secluded world of latchkey children.
This film takes latchkey children as its subject, focusing on a common phenomenon during Taiwan’s economic boom from the 1980s to the early 1990s. Parents were busy with work, and children often wore a key around their necks, returning alone to an empty house. This is not just a social phenomenon but also a poignant缩影 of a challenging era.
