A straight line falls in love with a circle, captivated by her perfection and elegance. However, the circle does not love him in return, finding the line too rigid, conservative, and inflexible. The circle yearns for passion and excitement—qualities she finds in the wild, free-spirited Cursive, even though Cursive lacks the line’s refined elegance.
Heartbroken after the rejection, the line sinks into sorrow, and even the company of his friends cannot ease his pain. Determined to change, he begins to transform himself. Through relentless effort, he learns to bend and shape himself freely into countless forms. Mysterious, sensual, profound, wise—he masters every style with ease. Finally, he gathers the courage to win back the love that belongs to him.
This film won the 1966 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
