A bespectacled, scholarly young man travels from place to place, collecting beautiful bottle caps. This time, he arrives at a certain beach aboard an old train. A strange fate begins to unfold as he spots a giant red teapot on the sand, roughly three to four meters tall. He circles the teapot, and soon, octopus-like tentacles extend from its base, while giant pincers resembling those of a hermit crab emerge from its front. Though bizarre and eerie in appearance, the teapot proves to be quite friendly. It tosses out a colorful rubber ball, and the two play together the entire afternoon. As the sun sets and the beachgoers disperse, the young man realizes his new friend has no owner. "Perhaps it's a lost thing," he thinks to himself. He decides to take the teapot with him, both to uncover what it truly is and to help it find its rightful place...
