In a cold, terrifying morgue lie countless ashen-gray corpses. Two female students, already frightened out of their wits, are urged by their instructor to perform an autopsy. The bespectacled girl trembles as she retrieves the deceased's heart, but to their shock, the old man who had just passed away suddenly revives. The old man shows them a photo of his wife, expressing his only wish: to see her one last time. To fulfill his final desire, they embark on a long, arduous drive to his hometown. At night, they finally arrive at the old man's home, only to witness a heartbreaking scene... Yet, in a twist of fate, love finds its way. It’s a happy ending.
This romantic animated short film, written and directed by Jonah D. Ansell, was selected for the 85th Academy Awards in 2013. What makes "Cadaver" unique is that it is not a clichéd love story but a bittersweet poetic film about love. Inspired by the love sonnets of Shel Silverstein and William Shakespeare, the film aims to rekindle hope and longing for love in those who are pessimistic about it.
