In this series' world, ordinary humans and anthropomorphic animals coexist, with these animals being no different from humans aside from their appearance. BoJack Horseman (voiced by Will Arnett) is a middle-aged, washed-up celebrity horse. In his youth, he starred in the hit TV show "Horsin' Around," but now he is a forgotten has-been, living in a villa in LA with the human slacker Todd (voiced by Aaron Paul). In an effort to make a comeback, BoJack, urged by his agent and ex-girlfriend Princess Carolyn (voiced by Amy Sedaris), decides to publish an autobiography, hoping to return to the public eye. However, due to BoJack's extreme procrastination and reluctance to write, the publishing house introduces a ghostwriter named Diane (voiced by Alison Brie) to him. After repeatedly refusing, BoJack finally meets Diane at a party, only to discover that she is the girlfriend of his arch-rival, Mr. Peanutbutter.
