Queen Cleopatra of Egypt makes a bet with Julius Caesar that she can build a magnificent palace within three months. Cleopatra entrusts this task to the architect Edifis, ordering that if he fails to complete it on time, he will be thrown into the crocodile pool.
Building a palace in such a short time is an impossible task, but there is one person who can help Edifis: the druid Getafix. So Edifis travels to the Gaulish village to seek the druid's assistance. Getafix gladly agrees to help, and he is accompanied by Asterix and Obelix.
At the construction site, Edifis gives each worker a dose of the magical potion he invented, making them incredibly strong and speeding up the progress. This is discovered by Edifis's rival, the architect Artifis, who wants Edifis dead so he can become Egypt's greatest architect. Artifis sends his men to destroy the stone materials. To avoid delays, Getafix decides to purchase stone materials downstream.
Artifis bribes pirates to attack Getafix's ship during the transportation, but he underestimates Asterix and Obelix. The pirates are chased away by the two Gaulish warriors. Still undeterred, Artifis sends his men to lure Getafix and his companions into a pyramid, hoping to trap them inside. Once again, Artifis's plan fails, as nothing can stand in the way of Asterix and Obelix.
The malicious Artifis bakes a poisoned cake and sends it to the queen in the name of the Gaulish warriors, causing the queen's taster to fall ill. The queen arrests the three Gauls, but Getafix revives the taster with his potion. Instead of punishing them, the queen becomes fascinated by the Gauls.
As the palace nears completion, Caesar learns of the progress and sends his army to secretly destroy it. If the palace is truly completed, he will lose the bet and have to submit to Queen Cleopatra. However, Caesar also looks forward to the possibility of secretly meeting the queen inside. Ultimately, Caesar decides to send his troops to save face.
Caesar's army is exceptionally powerful, but to the Gaulish warriors, it's nothing more than a game. However, Caesar's cannons damage parts of the palace. With no other choice, Asterix breaks through the siege with his little dog to deliver a message to Cleopatra. The queen arrives at the scene and stops Caesar's attack. Meanwhile, Edifis is rewarded by the queen and becomes Egypt's greatest architect.
