Following the warm reception of Disney's 1995 film "A Goofy Movie," Disney decided to release a second installment. Most of this film was completed at Disney's Sydney studio, and the story unfolds around Goofy's son Max after he enters college. Compared to the TV series and the first movie, Max is set to be 14 years old in the "Goof Troop" TV series, 16 years old in the first film "A Goofy Movie," and in this film, Max is portrayed as 19 or 20 years old. The story's focus remains on the generation gap between parent and child. When Max starts college, he looks forward to a life of unrestrained freedom and excitement, while his father Goofy seems like an unevolved relic to him. Just as Max rejoices in finally escaping the shadow of the Goofy family's eccentricities, his father Goofy unexpectedly shows up at his school to attend classes. When his dad appears on campus wearing 70s-style clothing, Max is utterly embarrassed! However, in the end, Max realizes that no matter what, he and his dad are still the best partners—forever the "Goofy family"!
