A science fiction anime film based on the original work by Leiji Matsumoto, which premiered at the International Science and Technology Exposition held in Tsukuba City in 1985. Female pilot Mayu and explorer Daichi Meguru have been on a long space voyage in search of the legendary planet "Arei," said to exist at the edge of the universe. However, one day, the mechanized human Zero boards their spaceship and declares a hijacking. Upon learning that Zero's destination is also Arei, the three become travel companions. Traveling through space enveloped in a strange sense of solidarity, they eventually encounter a lone spaceship. In its vicinity, they are captured by a mysterious beam and rendered immobile. The destination guided by that beam turns out to be none other than the planet "Arei" they sought...! A work with strong characteristics as a science education film, themed around space and Earth. It is also the first anime based on Leiji Matsumoto's works to make full-fledged use of CG. Produced by Toei Doga (now Toei Animation), the film features familiar names to Matsumoto anime fans, such as animation director Kazuo Komatsubara and scriptwriter Mitsuru Majima.
