This work is set 70 years after the events of "Avatar: The Last Airbender." The protagonist, Korra, is the next female Avatar after Aang, born in the Southern Water Tribe. She is passionate and rebellious in nature. At the start of the story, she has already mastered water, fire, and earthbending, and will next learn airbending under the guidance of Tenzin, the son of Aang and Katara. The story is set in the fictional Republic City, a metropolis powered by steampunk-inspired technology, with design elements drawn from cities such as Shanghai (1920s–1930s), Hong Kong, Manhattan, and Vancouver. In Republic City, rampant crime and the anti-bending movement are challenges Korra must face.
The 26 episodes are divided into two seasons: Book One: Air (2012) and Book Two: Spirits (2013), consisting of 12 and 14 episodes respectively.
