Jim Peck (voiced by Anthony LaPaglia) encounters a homeless man (voiced by Geoffrey Rush) on the street who asks him for money to buy coffee. Jim refuses, but to his surprise, the homeless man shoots himself right in front of him. Jim’s youngest son, 28-year-old David Peck (voiced by Samuel Johnson), can’t find a job—even telemarketing companies reject him for being "inexperienced." Jim persuades David to join his older brother Lenny’s (voiced by Ben Mendelsohn) debt collection agency, but David is only interested in philosophical questions like the meaning of life. Reluctantly giving it a try, he still ends up disappointing his father. Besides the Peck family, the same Sydney apartment building is home to a variety of residents: a drug addict who has broken up with his fiancée, a lonely widower, a bankrupt magician, a newly moved-in supermodel, and a football-loving kid. Amid the daily lives of these diverse individuals, what truly is the meaning of life, and how can one find happiness?
