Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Film and New Media, Animation Department. This DVD release compiles 14 graduation works and 14 first-year works by the third cohort of students. The 14 graduation titles, whose time and content cannot be fully grasped from their names alone, employ a wide range of techniques—from drawing and puppetry to experimental approaches—and explore truly diverse themes. The enhanced audio, achieved through collaboration with the Department of Musical Creativity and the Environment at our university's Faculty of Music, adds further depth to the visual worlds. 　By tracing all the included works, including the first-year pieces by the graduating students, one can discern both the individual growth of each student and the current state of "animation" as a short film medium. 　From another perspective, it also allows one to sense the journey of the Animation Department itself over these two years. 　Through 14 young, unfinished yet highly original viewpoints, these short works—born from the students' two-year exploration and "dialogue with animation expression"—hint at the next stage of animation art. 　Please enjoy this latest collection from our Animation Department, which has gained remarkable recognition both domestically and internationally, including the Silver Bear award won by a first-cohort student at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival.
