In the spring of 2008, the Animation Department of the Graduate School of Film and New Media was established in Yokohama. After two years, a DVD compiling the first 11 graduation works has been completed.

These 11 titles employ a wide range of techniques, from drawing and puppetry to mixed media and experimental approaches, with themes that are equally diverse. The rich sound design, created with the cooperation of the university's Department of Musical Creativity and the Environment, adds depth to these visual worlds.
Though young and unpolished, these 11 highly original perspectives represent the students' two-year exploration—a "dialogue with animation expression." The resulting collection of short works liberates us from the familiar image of "anime" and hints at a freer, vaster stage of "ANIMATION" expression.
"Animation" as short film is now gaining worldwide attention. We invite you to experience these works from our Animation Department, which received the 2010 Best School Award at Zagreb, one of the four major international animation film festivals.
