"Ani*Kuri 15" is a project co-produced by NHK and world-renowned Japanese animation creators such as Mamoru Oshii (creator of "Ghost in the Shell: Innocence"), Satoshi Kon ("Paprika"), and Michael L. Arias ("Tekkonkinkreet"), featuring 1-minute original animations.
Since Osamu Tezuka's masterpiece "Astro Boy," animation creators have continuously pursued new challenges. Ultimately, Japanese "anime" has carved out a new realm of "visual culture" with its unique diversity and creativity. Today, "Anime" has become a global common language.
NHK has previously challenged various new projects, such as the 1-minute drama "EL POPO TOWN," but this time, they have assembled 15 groups of animation creators, ranging from veterans to newcomers, to pioneer a new genre in television: 1-minute animations.
"Ani*Kuri 15" will air on General TV, with 5 groups of works broadcast consecutively over the course of a year, divided into three seasons (within a 1-minute slot between programs). Whether viewers encounter a particular creator's work at a given time depends on their luck. This element of serendipitous discovery is one of the exciting aspects of "Ani*Kuri 15." The website will also be gradually enriched, integrating television broadcasts with the internet to present the creative and stimulating worlds of all 15 creators.
NHK's new challenge, the collaborative project "Ani*Kuri 15" by animation creators and NHK, is something to look forward to.
