A detective comedy anime featuring characters based on fairy tales and folklore. Although it involves deduction, no murders occur (though attempts are made), and the stories primarily revolve around resolving quarrels or mishaps.
Set in the noisy village of "Fushigi no Mura," where characters and animals from fairy tales live as residents, the story follows three main characters: Alice, the only daughter of a flower shop; the detective Edogawa Shashiroku, who lodges at the flower shop; and his assistant, Inaba. Together, they solve the frequent mysterious incidents that occur. However, these incidents are not portrayed seriously and mostly consist of trivial cases like petty theft or minor assaults. Most culprits are let off with a simple warning, and after the incidents, they continue their normal social lives without serving any punishment.
Each episode concludes with Shashiroku’s line, "Well, everyone watching at home, have you figured it out yet? ...Go ahead and deduce it outright." At the beginning of the next episode, Inaba reveals the truth while recording the details of the case in a casebook notebook (illustrated diary).
