Fist of the North Star began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump on September 31, 1983. It tells the story of Kenshiro, who inherits the Fist of the North Star, and his repeated fierce battles with his older brother Raoh in a world at the end of the century. The side story "The Overlord of Heaven," based on the original work, depicts Raoh's youth after establishing the "King of Fists' Mansion," his encounter with Black King, the truth behind Toki's seclusion, and more—a story of Raoh advancing unwaveringly on the path of the conqueror and the secret of his birth.
